In Search of the Unknown by Darren Tanti Launches at il-Kamra ta’ Fuq This June

This June, il-Kamra ta’ Fuq invites you into a rarely seen dimension of artistic practice with Darren Tanti’s upcoming exhibition, In Search of the Unknown. Launching on Friday 20 June at 7:30pm, the show runs until 6 July, offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the creative journey of one of Malta’s most respected contemporary artists.

Rather than presenting a polished, finalised body of work, In Search of the Unknown boldly opens the doors to the process itself. Tanti transforms the gallery into a kind of open studio; a raw and honest exploration of the ideas, experiments, breakthroughs, and missteps that form the foundation of artistic creation.

Curated by Melanie Erixon, this project marks a notable departure from traditional art shows. Instead of showcasing resolution, it focuses on evolution. Viewers can expect to encounter visual notes, conceptual experiments, reworked pieces, and fragments of thought, each reflecting the tension and excitement that comes with searching for meaning through art.

Darren Tanti, known for his meticulous technique and conceptual depth, brings a wealth of experience to this project. His practice often bridges hyperrealism and digital experimentation, and his works have earned him international acclaim. Tanti has represented Malta at both the Venice Architecture Biennale (2014) and the Venice Art Biennale (2017), and his pieces are housed in esteemed collections, including MUŻA and the Embassy of Malta in Washington, D.C.

With a strong background in art education and a teaching philosophy rooted in process, Tanti is uniquely positioned to lead such an introspective exhibition. His dual identity as artist and educator adds a compelling layer to the show—reminding us that creativity is as much about exploration as it is about outcome.

For audiences, In Search of the Unknown offers a refreshing break from the finished and framed. It’s an honest reflection of how art is made: not in a straight line, but in a constellation of moments, some uncertain, others exhilarating, all contributing to the larger vision.

Don’t miss the opening night, where you can meet the artist and curator, and be among the first to journey into the unknown. Whether you’re an art lover, a student, or simply curious about the creative mind, this exhibition promises to be an inspiring and thought-provoking experience.
