Christmas Lights Switched On at Malta National Aquarium Square in Qawra

The Christmas season in Qawra has officially arrived as Pjazza San Pawl. The square just outside Malta National Aquarium has been beautifully illuminated in a festive lighting ceremony led by Ian Borg (Deputy Prime Minister & Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism) alongside Carlo Micallef, CEO of the Malta Tourism Authority.

This lighting marks the launch of ‘A Christmas Spectacle’, a festive programme open to everyone;  locals, families, and tourists alike,  with no entrance fee for the piazza area.

Throughout the season, from early December until 4 January 2026, Pjazza San Pawl together with the Aquarium will host a full array of holiday activities. Visitors can enjoy creative workshops, storytelling sessions, festive installations, live entertainment, a Christmas market vibe outdoors, and a holiday-style makeover inside the Aquarium itself, offering a fresh, seasonal perspective on the marine exhibits.

With free parking available and easy access by car or public transport, the Aquarium becomes an ideal destination for a relaxed day out or a fun family outing.

For those wanting to linger a little longer, there’s the on-site dining option at La Nave Bistro, perfect for breakfast, lunch, dinner or even just a coffee, often with lovely sea views stretching towards St Paul’s Islands, Comino and Gozo.
