British Pop Royalty Joins Maltese Radio Airwaves

One of the defining voices of 80s pop is coming to local Maltese radio. Kim Wilde has teamed up with Calypso Radio 101.8 for a new Saturday night show dedicated to the era that made her a global name.

Starting this weekend, Kim Wilde will host The Kim Wilde 80s Show every Saturday night, bringing a great selection of classic 80s hits to listeners across Malta and Gozo. The show airs weekly between 9pm and midnight, setting the vibe for relaxed, nostalgia-filled Saturday evenings.

The show goes deeper than a straightforward playlist. Alongside instantly recognisable tracks and rock-leaning favourites, Kim shares personal stories and reflections drawn from her time at the centre of the pop world. Fans can expect a great programme that feels personal, informed, and shaped by her first-hand experience.

Kim Wilde first rose to international fame in 1981 with Kids in America, a track that quickly became one of the defining songs of the era. Throughout the 1980s, she dominated the charts, becoming the most successful British female solo artist of the decade in terms of hit singles. Her career now spans several decades, with over 30 million records sold worldwide.

Her catalogue includes enduring favourites such as Chequered Love, Cambodia, You Came, and You Keep Me Hangin’ On, which reached number one on the US Billboard chart. She has toured alongside music legends including Michael Jackson and David Bowie, and received the BRIT Award for Best British Female Solo Artist in 1983.

Away from the charts, Kim Wilde has built a notable second chapter. In the late 1990s, she developed a successful career in horticulture, earning a Gold Medal at the Chelsea Flower Show and publishing several gardening books. Music, however, has always remained very close to her heart, with live touring continuing around the world.

Now, Maltese listeners can spend their Saturday nights in the company of a genuine pop icon. For fans of 80s music, this new Calypso Radio residency offers three hours of classic songs, personal insight, and a soundtrack that still holds its place today.
