At the end of the 50s in Châteauroux, Rachel, a modest office worker, meets Philippe, a brilliant young man from a bourgeois family. From this passionate but brief affair is born a little girl, Chantal. Philippe refuses to marry outside his social class. Rachel will have to raise her daughter alone. Nevertheless, Chantal is her great happiness, which is why she fights for Philippe to recognise his daughter.
