Czech conductor Pavel Šnajdr

The show is presented by the Malta International Arts Festival and will take place on 10 July at 8:30pm at Pjazza Teatru Rjal in Valletta

The Malta International Arts Festival and the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra have established a yearly collaboration presenting an innovative programme of 20th century and contemporary works.

This live concert, under the baton of Czech conductor Pavel Šnajdr, features a varied repertoire of masterworks including Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta by famous Hungarian composer Béla Bartók, as well as Concerto in D for String Orchestra by Igor Stravinsky and Ricordanza per Archi by Wojciech Kilar.

Béla Bartók

Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta, is recognised as one of Bartók’s greatest masterpieces. It is one of the purest and most perfectly proportioned distillations of his mature style, a summing up of all that he had accomplished. The music embodies many of the contradictions that make Bartók’s art so fascinating: it is simultaneously primitive and sophisticated; wild and controlled; serene and terrifying; serious and slapstick.
