The Award-Winning Animated Docudrama Film ‘Flee’ Has Landed in Malta!

The universally acclaimed Danish film ‘Flee’ has made its debut in Malta, featuring in multiple showings between the first week of March up until the 23 of March 2022 at the Spazju Kreattiv Cinema. The docudrama film has received critical praise for its punching thematic content, subject matter, widespread LGBT representation, and its sophisticated animation. With the incorporation of the archival footage of the events in Afghanistan, ‘Flee’ takes a microscopic view of the life of Amin Nawabi, a 36-year-old academic, and how he is managing to handle his 20-year-old secrets. These secrets, if unveiled, threaten to wreak havoc in his life and his soon-to-be husband. Through a set of introspective thoughts, Amin Nawabi shares his story about his past and how he fled from his home country of Afghanistan to Denmark.

Taking home awards such as the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance Film Festival, Best International Independent Film at British Independent Film Awards, and Best Documentary Film & Best Animated Feature Film at European Film Awards, ‘Flee’ has been described as ‘remarkably humanising’ by The Guardian, and ‘An extraordinary combination of personal reflection and inspired craft, Flee is a harrowing child’s-eye adventure, one that lends lyricism to the plight of migrants while showing there’s always a new way to make a documentary’ by the Empire January issue.
