Aleksa Ristović Wins Best Director as Debut Film Lands Distribution Deal

Malta-based filmmaker Aleksa Ristović wins Best Director in Texas for his debut feature Illusion of Faith, which has also secured international distribution with Faith Channel Distribution.

Serbia-born, Malta-based filmmaker Aleksa Ristović has reached a major milestone with his debut feature film, Illusion of Faith, which has secured distribution with Faith Channel Distribution.

The announcement was made during CONTENT 2026 – Christian Media Conference in Texas, where Ristović was also honoured with the Best Director – Feature Film Award for Illusion of Faith.

The achievement marks another significant step in a filmmaking journey that began with independent short films and has now led to international feature-film distribution.

Just one year earlier, at CONTENT 2025, Ristović received the Best Cinematography – Short Film Award at Capernaum Studios in Texas. Returning to Texas for CONTENT 2026, he presented his debut feature to the Christian filmmaking community and took home the award for Best Director.

For Ristović, the two moments, one year apart, mark an important chapter in his development as a filmmaker.

Illusion of Faith

Filmed entirely on location in Malta, Illusion of Faith is a faith-based mystery centred on a fugitive who draws a detective into a mystery that challenges the boundaries between logic and belief.

The film explores questions of faith, miracles, loss and the possibility of something beyond human understanding, while Malta’s landscapes, historic locations and religious heritage play an important role in its visual world.

Ristović serves as the film’s writer, director, cinematographer and producer, working alongside producer Chris Johnson, whose support helped turn the independent project into a completed feature.

The film stars Henry Zammit Cordina, Aleksa Ristović, Jaimie Busuttil, Frida Cauchi, Hristijan Kostovski, Vladimir Cabak and Katarina Bokity Lazarevic.

A Journey from Malta to Texas

Ristović’s connection with the Christian filmmaking community has grown through CONTENT, the Christian Filmmakers Network and the wider Christian media community in the United States.

His experience at Capernaum Studios during CONTENT 2025 was followed by an even more significant return in 2026, when Illusion of Faith received the Best Director – Feature Film Award.

With the film now represented by Faith Channel Distribution, it is entering a new stage and has the opportunity to reach a wider faith-based audience.

Ristović expressed his gratitude to John Stewart, Chip Rossetti and the Faith Channel team for believing in the film and welcoming it to the Faith Channel family.

He also gave special thanks to producer Chris Johnson, who supported his vision from the beginning.

“This is a very special moment for me, and I’m grateful to everyone who helped bring this project to life.”

A Milestone for Ristones Movies

For Ristones Movies, the independent filmmaking identity behind Ristović’s work, Illusion of Faith represents an important step forward.

Ristović began his filmmaking journey through short films and independent productions before taking on the challenge of making his first feature. His work often explores faith, loss, renewal, silence, mystery and the search for meaning, with Malta frequently serving as both a setting and a visual character.

The recognition at CONTENT 2025, followed one year later by the Best Director award at CONTENT 2026, reflects the continuing development of his work within the international Christian filmmaking community.

With Illusion of Faith now represented by Faith Channel Distribution, Ristović’s debut feature begins a new chapter, taking a film made in Malta to audiences beyond the island.

For the filmmaker, it is not simply the completion of a film, but another step in a journey built on vision, persistence, friendship and faith.
