Ma Kuraġġ u Wliedha (Mother Courage and Her Children), an anti-war play by exiled German writer Bertolt Brecht, has been translated into Maltese by Loranne Vella. The Manoel Theatre will present the now-classic play on September 2-4 and 9-11. The national theatre company, Teatru Malta is producing this play at Manoel Theatre
Ma Kuraġġ was initially written by German playwright and poet Brecht in 1939, with a significant contribution from Margarete Steffin. The story takes place in 17th-century Europe and centres on Anna Fierling, renowned as Mother Courage. With the assistance of her three children, Anna manages a rolling canteen business during the War. The destructive repercussions of a European war and the blindness of those wanting to benefit from it are the play’s key themes.
