From the stage to the studio: six weeks of dance

This weekend, from Friday 11 to Sunday 13 November, Teatru Salesjan presents Richard Alfieri’s international tragicomedy SIX Dance Lessons in Six Weeks, a piece for stage which tells the story of an elderly widow who hires a dance instructor for six (only six) lessons at her home.

Despite their differing backgrounds, the pair develop an unlikely friendship amidst a story touching on both comedic and sombre elements.

The production takes place in the stunning surroundings of the ballroom at Palazzo Parisio in Naxaar, and stars Monica Attard as the widow Lily Harrison and Joe Azzopardi as instructor Michael Minetti. The director is Irene Christ.

In addition to this staged production, throughout November and December Teatru Salesjan will be running an initiative aimed at promoting dance amongst individuals aged 60+ in various locations across Malta. The first of these sessions takes place at 9:30am on Thursday 10 November at The Imperial in Sliema. Led by facilitator Pamela Kerr, these sessions will focus on Swing, Tango, Waltz, Foxtrot, Cha-Cha and Contemporary Dance, with no prior experience required for participation.

‘SIX Dance Lessons in Six Weeks’ takes place Friday 11 to Sunday 13 November at 7:30pm, and is made possible by the generous support of the ADRC Trust, the BOV Joseph Calleja Foundation and Arts Council Malta. To learn more, visit the event page on showshappening.com.
