Malta’s population shot up to a total of 542,051, after a spike of almost 22,000 last year, with 83.1% of the new residents being third-country nationals (65% of which are men), National Statistics Office (NSO) reports.
This resulted in a 4.2% increase when compared to the previous year.
On the other hand, the natural population increase, which is determined by births and deaths, was the lowest it’s been in 15 years; with 4309 births and 4230 deaths in 2022.
Almost 53% of the total population at the end of 2022 was male. Residents under the age of 18 made up a bit over 15% of the total population, while more than 18.6% were 65 and over.
