‘The Sound of Musicals’: an all-encompassing musical showcase to be held Manoel Theatre this weekend

TOI TOI, Manoel Theatre’s Learning and Participation Programme, invites you to come along for a musical journey this weekend. The Sound of Musicals isn’t a typical musical production where you follow one story from start to finish. Instead, the audience will be taken on an adventure through the evolution of musical theatre.
It will begin with classic works of such quintessential composers as Sondheim, best known for Sweeney Todd (1979) and Into The Woods (1986), as well as Bernstein, the composer behind West Side Story (1957). Then, the performances will progress to the 21st century, with numbers from such modern hit musicals as The Lion King (1997), Hamilton (2015), and Dear Evan Hansen (2016).
This innovative production comes from the mind of award-winning theatre producer Caroline Clegg, her being the show’s director, writer, and visionary. The showcase will be the culmination of theatre workshops that are currently underway, as they have been and will be throughout this entire week. The talented cast will be accompanied by Manoel Theatre’s own live orchestra, who will be conducted by Tom Newall and perform new orchestrations by Veronique Vella.
You can catch The Sound of Musicals this Friday 29 September at 7pm, or the next day at the same time. Whether you consider yourself an aficionado of musical theatre or have little to no knowledge of the art form, you don’t want to miss out.
