Rockestra Returns for 15th Edition this Saturday

Rockestra is an annual concert led by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, who perform orchestral renditions of classic rock tracks. This Saturday, Rockestra will be returning for its 15th edition with the theme “More Than a Feeling”.

The popular event is presented by and in aid of The Malta Community Chest Fund (MCCFF), a charity foundation that strives to improve the quality of life for individuals and institutions indiscriminately. The MCCFF aids hundreds of people a year, particularly ones suffering from illnesses, using funds amassed from “fund-raising activities, donations, contributions, bequests, endowments and legacies”. In fact, this year’s musical director, Mro Aurelio Belli, divulged his personal positive experience with MCCFF who aided him throughout his battle with cancer.

The foundation, which was a fund until former president Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca made it one in 2015, is regulated by the civil code under the patronage of the President. This year marks the final edition of Rockestra under President George Vella, who expressed gratitude towards the organisers, singers and The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra for their efforts during the press launch back in August. He also urged the public to remember that Rockestra is about raising funds for those in need before anything else. By the same token, Rockestra’s Artistic Director, Pawlu Borġ Bonaċi, called it “an event with a noble cause that brings together people from different walks of life”.

Having said that, not only is the concert an opportunity for collective altruism, but it’s also a platform for showcasing local talent. This year’s edition offers a star-studded lineup of local singers, featuring Aidan Drakard, David Loewe, Mikaela, Moira, Martina, Kersten Graham, Kevin Paul, Kenneth, Matthew James, Klinsmann, Raquela, Chris Grech, Peter Grech, Frank Calleja, Lara Dimech, Brooke Borg, and Pawlu Borġ Bonaċi.

The concert will be held from 8:30pm till 10:30pm at the Malta Fairs & Conventions Centre (MFCC) in Ta’ Qali, as it has been since the first instalment. Get your tickets while you still can!
