Ringside Theatre Company brings Dark Comedy ‘Bull’ to Queen Mary Malta Campus

A new exciting project is coming to the Queen Mary University London, Malta Campus in Victoria next month. Ringside Theatre Company (RTC), a theatre collective based in Gozo, is putting on a production of Mike Bartlett’s ‘Bull’.

‘Bull’ is a modern dark comedy about the dark side of office rivalry and the effects of corporate downsizing; Three co-workers, Tony, Isabel, and Thomas, meet at the water cooler and anxiously wait for their boss to arrive and announce which one of them will be given the boot. The conversation quickly devolves into what is essentially playground bullying as they try to one up each other, with dialogue so well-written you’ll feel like you’re back in school yourself.

The title ‘Bull’ is perhaps a nod to Bullying or even Bullfighting, as the original adaptation sets up the stage as a boxing ring with a lonely water cooler in one corner. Tackling themes of power, ambition and bullying, this raw, quick-paced, gripping drama is presented as RTC’s A-side professional fringe theatre piece directed by Jayne Giordanella. The cast features Edward Thorpe, Kelly Peplow, Alex Weenink and Bob Cardona.

The Ringside Theatre Company will no doubt do justice to this production, which critics have described as “razor-sharp” and “uncomfortably riveting”. This play lasts less than an hour (approximately 55 minutes), and will be followed by a quick Q&A session. It is not appropriate for those who are below the age of 15 due to strong language and sexual references. Moreover, do be careful as the subject matter of bullying and abuse may be triggering for some.

‘Bull’ will be on at the Queen Mary University London, Malta Campus every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from November 9 to 19 at varying times. To check time and purchase tickets click here. A standard ticket costs €18, but on Theatre Thursdays you get 25% off (€13.50)! Queen Mary University London students and staff are eligible for other discounts upon presentation of a Queen Mary ID.
