Malta Philharmonic Orchestra to perform ‘Classics at the Cathedral’ in Victoria this Saturday

Prepare to enjoy some timeless classical music in the Gozo cathedral this Saturday! With a thrilling classical concert aptly named ‘Classics at the Cathedral’, the Ulied il-Belt il-Qadima Foundation proudly invites the public to sit in on a performance that will surely wow the audience.
This concert will be held on Saturday November 11, within the majestic walls of Victoria’s Cathedral of the Assumption. Prepare for an evening of musical splendour, courtesy of the esteemed Malta Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Mro. Joseph Debrincat.
The carefully curated program for the event features a varied collection of classical works. Nicolò Isouard’s Sinfonia in Do minore will open the program and set the mood for a night of classics. In a statement, Debrincat emphasised the importance of performing works by Maltese composers; “If we do not promote our musical heritage ourselves, nobody will”.
Next, Giuseppe Recchia, an Italian clarinet soloist, will showcase his extraordinary skills in Carl Maria von Weber’s Clarinet Concerto No. 2, Op. 74, J. 118. German composer, conductor, pianist, guitarist, and critic Carl Maria von Weber played a pivotal role in the growth of German Romantic opera. His operas are still regarded as some of the most important in German history, and his compositions greatly influenced other successive composers.
This musical adventure will be wrapped up with the widely renowned Symphony No. 41, K. 551 “Jupiter” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Written in the summer of 1788, Symphony No. 41 is the definition of a timeless classic. As Mozart’s longest and final symphony, it is considered the greatest classical symphony ever written.
