Festivals Malta releases programme for Valletta Baroque Festival 2024

Festivals Malta has officially released a schedule of events for the 2024 Valletta Baroque Festival. The long-awaited festival is scheduled to occur from January 11 to January 28, 2024.

The Valletta Baroque Festival debuted in 2013, making this year’s instalment its 12th one. It has since mesmerised audiences by showcasing some of the top performers and groups in the baroque music field. The event lasts for more than three weeks and is held in a number of magnificent venues that represent the pinnacle of Baroque architecture in Malta, including St. John’s Co-Cathedral, The Verdala Palace, Palazzo Parisio, and The Manoel Theatre. 

This year’s edition promises a stellar lineup and exciting acts.  The Valletta Baroque Festival 2024 features a diverse programme of over 30 concerts taking place in over 15 locations across the island. Some of the amazing local and international talents include Robin Pharo, Zefiro Ensemble, Alon Sariel, Holland Baroque with Wu Wei, Lucile Boulanger, Vox Luminis, and Les Contre-Sujets. 

The Rock Troupers and the Valletta Baroque Ensemble will also be returning for this year’s edition with their project BaRock at the Manoel Theatre. Moreover, the festival will feature  some of the best concert pianists in Malta performing the keyboard concertos by Bach, in collaboration with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra.

The event will begin with a grandiose performance of Johann Sebastian Bach’s ‘St John Passion BWV 245’ at St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta, led by the Valletta Baroque Ensemble and Kor Malta under Riccardo Bianchi’s musical supervision. After three weeks of nonstop incredible events, the festival will conclude with a children’s opera, La Serva Padrona by Pergolesi, directed by Jacob Piccinino and performed under the musical supervision of Sarah Spiteri.
