Discover unique, handcrafted pieces perfect for your home or as cherished gifts.
Ta’ Qali is a village renowned for its vibrant artisan community and the traditional Maltese craftsmanship that flourishes within it. At the heart of this creative hub is the Ta’ Qali Crafts Village, a must-visit destination for anyone interested in the island’s rich cultural heritage. Here, visitors can witness the mesmerising process of glassblowing, the delicate art of filigree jewellery making, as well as the intricate creation of lace and sculptures.
Among the various artisan shops, Mediterranean Ceramics stands out as a personal favourite. Established by brothers David and Brian Grima, the company represents over twenty years of combined expertise, resulting in a stunning array of ceramics that embody Mediterranean charm and craftsmanship.
Since its inception, the company has grown into two separate stores. David, now assisted by his daughter Jessica, operates ‘Mediterranean Ceramics’, located just a short distance from Brian’s store.
Both stores continue to thrive, offering an impressive selection of handcrafted ceramics.
At Mediterranean Ceramics, their mission is to revive the craft of ceramic-making in Malta and promote it as part of the Mediterranean cultural identity both locally and overseas.
One of the most notable offerings from Mediterranean Ceramics is their range of tables and counters crafted from Sicilian lava stone. These massive slabs of volcanic rock are custom-cut to meet clients’ specifications, creating durable, lifetime- guaranteed pieces that withstand outdoor conditions, resist wear and tear, and remain unscathed by kitchen spills and cuts. You can view a selection of their beautiful lava stone tables and chairs collection on their website.
In my kitchen, I cherish their locally hand- crafted plates and bowls, which never fail to impress guests and serve as conversation starters. These ceramics make thoughtful gifts and are treasured as personal keepsakes, reflecting the high-quality craftsmanship of the Mediterranean.
The detailed hand-painting on each piece is what makes Mediterranean Ceramics stand out. The dedication and care invested in each item ensure that whether you’re in search of kitchen décor, home accents, or outdoor living pieces, Mediterranean Ceramics will have something to meet your needs.
When visiting the Ta’ Qali Crafts Village, be sure to stop by Mediterranean Ceramics. Their captivating products make it almost impossible to leave without purchasing at least one piece to start or add to your collection.
