Major Public Transport Service Changes Announced for Summer 2025
Malta Public Transport has announced a series of service changes aimed at improving the bus network across Malta and Gozo during the busy summer period. The adjustments, which will be introduced in phases during the months of June and July, include over 250 additional trips per day to accommodate increased seasonal demand.
Improved Services in GozoÂ
Kicking off the summer changes, several routes in Gozo will benefit from more frequent services starting 1st June. Route 322, connecting Mġarr and Marsalforn, will see its frequency improved from every 90 minutes to every 45 minutes. Route 310, running between Rabat and Marsalforn, will operate every 30 minutes, up from 45-minute intervals.
Additionally, Route 302 between Rabat and Ramla will now serve Ramla Bay on every trip, offering more consistent access to the beach. Meanwhile, Route 109 will be extended to Lapsi, providing a direct connection to another popular seaside destination.
Expanded Summer Services in Malta from 14 June
A broader range of changes will come into effect on 14th June, focusing on key routes in Malta. Several high-demand routes will benefit from increased frequency, including:
Route 212 (Sliema–Buġibba)
Route 221 (Buġibba–Ċirkewwa)
Route 222 (Sliema–Ċirkewwa)
Route 223 (Buġibba–Għajn Tuffieħa)
Route 225 (Sliema–Għajn Tuffieħa)
Route 49 (Valletta–Għadira/Armier)
Route 53 (Valletta–Rabat)
Several of these routes will also be extended to better serve summer hotspots. Notably, Route 49 will now reach Armier, Route 74 will serve Blue Grotto, and Routes 101 and 101B will be extended to Ä nejna.
While most changes will bring added convenience, a few routes will see reduced frequency due to typically lower demand in summer. These include:
Route 61 (Valletta–Żebbuġ)
Route 72 (Valletta–Qrendi)
Route 73 (Valletta–Żurrieq)
Further Updates and Scholastic Adjustments from 6th July
On 6 July, additional frequency increases will be introduced on Routes 212 and 221. Route 223 will also benefit from extra evening trips on weekdays.
In line with the end of the school year, scholastic services will be suspended for the summer. Affected routes include:
Route X1A (Ċirkewwa–University of Malta)
Route 150 (Lascaris–MCAST)
Route 207 (Marsa–Naxxar Higher Secondary)
Route 43, which runs from Valletta to Naxxar, will also see a change in frequency.
All updated services will continue to be part of the free public transport scheme for passengers using a personalised Tallinja Card.Â
For those paying with cash or contactless methods, a summer fare of €2.50 per trip will apply from 14 June.
Passengers are encouraged to use the Tallinja App or check the official routes and timetables for the most accurate and updated information.
