Heading to Gozo? Here’s what you need to know

In a press conference just week, the Prime Minister Robert Abela announced a number of measures that will be put into during the month of February. These measures were, primarily, put into place to limit excessive gatherings, house parties and carnival festivities, which, were it not for the COVID-19 pandemic, would be taking place between the 12 and 16 of February.
Our sister island of Gozo is not only the hot-spot for relaxing weekends by the sea. The island is extremely popular during Carnival weekend and Valentine’s. With both events falling on the same weekend this year, it is hardly surprising that the Maltese government thought it apt to implement some new measures.
In case you’re planning on spending time in Gozo this month, it’s crucial that you’re aware of the brand new measures.
Temperature checks
Anyone and everyone who boards the Gozo Channel ferry, between the 11 and 17 of February, will be subjected to having their temperatures checked prior to boarding
stay in your car
What’s more, those who are boarding the ferry with their vehicles, will be asked to remain in their cars for the duration of the journey. The ferries will also be operating at half the normal capacity and a LESA officer will be on board to ensure that everyone is wearing their masks
checks and rounds
During the same dates, police officers, as well as LESA and Transport Malta will be doing the rounds in Rabat, Nadur, Marsalforn and Xlendi, performing checks
rental properties
Finally, the Malta Tourism Authority will be carrying out checks to make absolutely sure that rental properties have the correct amount of people per beds, according to their licenses
