Standing events may be allowed in Malta by mid-August
Malta may start allowing standing organised events following the Santa Marija public holiday on 15 August, said Health minister Chris Fearne during a press conference earlier today.
“If the situation and the numbers allow us to do so, we will consider allowing standing events with small numbers after Santa Marija. That way, we can continue approaching normality,” said Fearne.
Relaxed Event restrictions
As of today, 5 July, the Maltese islands are allowing organised events with a number of restrictions. All guests must be seated and present a vaccination certificate and organisers must fill out a risk assessment form. Not to mention that the venue must cater for four square metres per person.
Events are to be capped at 100 people, while several 100-person ‘bubbles’ will be allowed, if the organisers are able to keep them separate from other at all times during the event. The number will increase to 150 people on 19 July and 200 on 2 August. As it stands, all attendees must remain seated throughout.
The health minister also confirmed that while daily COVID-19 cases have risen in the last few days, by comparison to the last few weeks, the island’s high vaccination rates are certainly affecting hospital admissions. Though two COVID-19 patients are currently being hospitalised, with one of them in the ITU, neither of them have been vaccinated.
