Apple TV’s foundation series shot in Malta releases trailer

Apple has finally released a brand new trailer for Foundation, its upcoming sci-fi TV series for Apple TV Plus, which is based on Isaac Asimov’s trilogy of the same name. The series saw a significant portion of its production take place in Malta, or more specifically, at the Malta Film Studios in Kalkara, throughout the month of Febbraio this year.

Several hundreds of locals worked on the series during filming and brought big names such as Lee Pave from Guardian of the Galaxy and Jared Harris from Chernobyl to our stunning islands.

Isaac Asimov’s original Foundation trilogy has received a plethora of awards since it was completed in 1953, as it even won the Hugo for Best All-Time Series. The space opera has, since then, inspired many a movie and TV show, as well as comics and games and you can even see its influence in Star Trek and Star Wars.

Following a few false starts, the trilogy is finally making it’s way to our television screens, courtesy of Apple+. Slated to debut on 24 Settembre of this year, Apple+ thought it best to release an exciting trailer, which features vast space vistas, a sweeping soundtrack and a few shots that were captured locally.

Check out the trailer below:

The 10-episode show will follow, just like the novels, Hari Seldon, the inventor of a novel predictive science called psychohistory. He uses it to try and slow and limit the impact of what he sees as the inevitable collapse of the Galactic Empire. This makes people rather nervous, not the least of which is Hari himself. Though, he’s not only intelligent enough to invent a new kind of science, but also to know how the people in power will react to it.

According to Apple+’s press material, the show “chronicles a band of exiles on their monumental journey to save humanity and rebuild civilisation amid the fall of the Galactic Empire,” which suggests that the series is likely to follow the spirit of the novels more than the letter.
