Gozo Takes Flight at the International Kite and Wind Festival This Weekend

Looking for something different to add to your Malta holiday? Head to Gozo from 16 to 18 October, when the skies above Għarb will fill with colour for the return of the International Kite and Wind Festival.

Held in the San Dimitri area, this annual event brings together kite flyers and enthusiasts from across the world for a weekend of spectacular displays, hands-on activities and entertainment for all ages. With its lively international atmosphere, it is a great opportunity to experience another side of the Maltese Islands.

This year’s festival has an extra attraction, with night-time shows planned for Friday and Saturday, weather permitting. As the sun goes down, visitors can look forward to a different take on the spectacle, adding another highlight to the three-day programme.

The festival has become a popular date on Gozo’s events calendar, drawing thousands of visitors to the island each year. Its appeal extends beyond the kite displays, with activities designed to bring together families, children and visitors of different ages and nationalities.

If you’re planning to attend, a little forward planning will make the journey easier. Organisers are encouraging visitors to use the Park & Ride service from Victoria, helping to ease congestion around the festival grounds. Those travelling by car should follow directions from the marshals stationed along the approach roads.

Whether you’re visiting Malta for the first time or looking for another reason to explore Gozo, this colourful autumn event offers a memorable way to spend a weekend on the sister island.
