Valletta Resounds: The Caravaggio Experience concert back for another run

Valletta Resounds: The Caravaggio Experience is returning to St John’s Co-Cathedral for a new set of concerts, after a successful run of sold-out shows.

Held at the storied St. John’s Co-Cathedral Oratory, Valletta Resounds skillfully combines ageless classical music, dramatic storytelling, and Caravaggio masterpieces. The site-specific performance features renowned Maltese musicians, bringing to life the works of Baroque Masters like Handel and Bach as well as the sound of religious Maltese music by composer Francesco Azzopardi and others.

The music, expertly sung by three of Malta’s most eminent sopranos—Dorothy Bezzina, Dorothy Baldacchino, and Hannah Bonnici—is exquisitely rendered on the psaltery, baroque violin, baroque cello, and baroque harp by the show’s musical director, Jacob Portelli. This musical treat is skillfully interwoven with stories of the Oratory passionately recited by Jeremy Grech, who assumes the character of the distinguished Fra Bartolomeo.

In addition to the sopranos, the cast is composed of two actors, Jeremy Grech and Myron Ellul, the former of which happens to be the play’s scriptwriter, and two violinists (Emese Toth and David Lang). Furthermore, this production was overseen by Creative Producer Toni Attard and Production Manager Laureen Spiteri. Performers are scheduled to appear on varying dates, and the schedule is subject to minor modifications.

Valletta Resounds: The Caravaggio Experience will be held on a few spaced out dates throughout November and December, with the last one being December 8. The concert lasts 40 minutes and starts at 6.30 pm, with special admission to the Cathedral via the St. John Street main entrance starting at 6 pm. Before Valletta Resounds, guests can also get a VIP experience with an exclusive guided tour of the main nave at 5.45 pm.

The VIP ticket is priced at €45 and includes a reserved seat for Valletta Resounds. Standard tickets for the Valletta Resounds Concert cost €25.
