Free Guided Tours at Two Heritage Malta Sites This Wednesday

Tarxien Temples

Joining worldwide initiatives marking Tourist Guide Day, on Wednesday 21 February Heritage Malta is inviting the public to enjoy free guided tours at the National Museum of Archaeology and the Tarxien Prehistoric Complex, from 9.30am till 1.30pm.

Tourist Guide Day serves as an annual tribute to the expertise of these professionals, pivotal in shaping travellers’ experiences and advocating for the significance of their role. This collaborative endeavour between Heritage Malta and the Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS) underscores the importance of tourism education in Malta.

Visitors purchasing admission on-site will have the opportunity to join free guided tours led by ITS tour guiding students, supported by their instructors.

The National Museum of Archaeology in Valletta boasts an impressive collection, offering insight into the prehistory and early history of the Maltese Islands. Spanning from the Neolithic to the early Phoenician period, the museum provides a captivating introduction to the island’s rich heritage.

The Tarxien Prehistoric Complex tells its story through its architecture and art, with imposing entrances, interconnected passages, and captivating prehistoric artwork transporting visitors to Malta’s earliest civilisations.

Guided tours will be available in both Maltese and English, commencing hourly on a first-come, first-served basis. No advance booking is necessary.
