Experience Malta’s Iconic Dome After Dark
Discover the awe-inspiring Mosta Dome — a majestic rotunda in Malta blending history, architecture, and wartime miracles. Visit day or night this summer and experience its unforgettable grandeur.
While in Malta you cannot miss a visit to the Dome. The beautiful and majestic Basilica of the Assumption in the town of Mosta should be in the must-see bucket list of every visitor to the Maltese Islands. It offers an experience second to none. No wonder it is one of the top places in Malta, sought after by tourists and locals alike. Its uniqueness is its brand.
It is a rotunda – a place of worship built in the round, emulating Rome’s Pantheon. Its unsupported dome is big – gigantic describes it more accurately. It is an architectural beauty – a mix of neo-classical designs and motifs. It has challenged doom – a bomb, no five, were dropped on it within the space of minutes, during a fateful day in April 1942, and none exploded.
It offers an all-round experience – one can go on the roof and take in the mind-blowing view; one can go beneath it and travel back in time inside the wartime shelter; one can go inside the church and fathom the array of art, architecture, design and colour that make the interior an explosion of amazement and wonder.
Yet, these are all words. The experience comes alive only when you are there, in this gem right in the centre of the island of Malta.
And now, for the months of July, August and September, you have no excuses. You cannot say there is no time. While enjoying the beach, the various sites, the shopping and any other activity which may be more attractive during the sunlight, the Mosta Rotunda will be available for you to visit on extended hours.
Yes, that’s right! Further to the daily opening hours, which will continue to make the Basilica available for visits during the week, these hours run into the night on Tuesdays and Fridays – from 7.00 pm to 11.00 pm.
Take your time in beautiful Malta. Go where you wish to go; but do not miss an experience which millions have already enjoyed, keep coming back and continue to remember fondly. Come over to Mosta in the evening, during the cooler Maltese nights. Tour at leisure the magnificent Basilica. Enjoy what you will see; cherish every moment.
And after a satisfying visit, drop in and savour Maltese hospitality and a snack at the Dome Visitors Centre, just outside the Rotunda. Have a tea or a coffee while also enjoying a mouthwatering pastry or the renowned king of Maltese street food, the pastizz, filled with ricotta or peas. A relaxing moment in an unforgettable visit to the Basilica of the Assumption.
You will leave fulfilled.
