Popeye Village: For the young and young at heart
Popeye Village, the film set of the 1980 Musical Production ‘Popeye’, has been turned into a fun theme park, where you can take a boat ride, participate in water activities and even make and star in your own short movie.
Popeye Village is one of Malta’s most distinctive attractions where one can find the 39 year old film-set of the musical production ‘Popeye’ that was filmed in Malta in 1980. Popeye Village offers the most picturesque setting for those who are looking to have a fun day out during their stay in Malta.
The Film set is located in the northern part of Malta at the breath-taking Anchor Bay in Mellieħa. Lately, the village has been receiving international attention due to it being a live tribute to the late Robin Williams, who played the main part of the one-eyed sailor. It has also been named as one of Malta’s Top Attractions on a number of international portals.
Besides roaming through a still standing original Paramount Pictures Film set, one can also become a movie star for a day by participating in the main activity of the day: Take 2 Filming. One can become a movie star for one day by forming part of a cast and starring in an actual movie. Participants will have a blast and get a taste of Hollywood. The activity includes everything you could possibly imagine from plotting of scenes and rehearsals to costume-picking and the actual filming. This is followed by a visit to the cinema to experience the Premier of the movie. Copies of this epic thriller can be purchased after the preview.
A full animation programme runs throughout the film set; viewing of sketches, dance routines, game shows and puppet shows. One can also meet Popeye, Olive Oyl and the rest of the gang during animation shows, and of course, take selfies with them throughout the whole day.
In Summer, make sure you spend some time and have a thrill on the inflatable obstacle course. Experience the thrill of running, bouncing and jumping along the course or on the water trampolines or just lazy about on one of the Bedouin beds and enjoy the warmth of the Mediterranean Sea. When the weather permits, a free boat trip around Anchor Bay is offered to every guest.
The film set has hosted a number of events, functions and activities for both local and foreign corporate incentive groups. Various areas of the film set can be used for different functions and activities including casual BBQ lunches and dinners. It can also be transformed into different themes such as a Pirate Village, a Western Village or a Hawaiian Village – the possibilities are endless. The village is setup to accommodate different games and activities for team building activities and treasure hunts. The film set is also used as wedding venue for those looking to host their dream fairytale wedding.
