Are you desperately craving a trip overseas? We know we are! Hence why we cannot help but be thrilled at the news that national airline Air Malta has announced their flight schedule for this summer, which includes over 3,000 flights, to 20 cities.

During the six-month programme, which covers from May till October 2021, Air Malta will be operating direct flights to and from Amsterdam, Brussels, Catania, Frankfurt, Geneva, Lisbon, London, Heathrow, Lyon, Manchester, Munich, Milan Linate, Moscow, Palermo, Paris Charles De Dualle, Paris Orly, Prague, Rome, Tel Aviv, Vienna and finally, Zurich.

The schedule includes no less than 10 flights to London Heathrow on a weekly basis, twice to Manchester, 11 times to airports in Paris and nine times to Catania. On the other hand, flights will be heading to Vienna, Munich and Rome five times a week.

With regards to tourist season, the plan is for the Maltese Islands to open on 1 June, with a €20 million package to aid the sector, which has suffered greatly due to COVID-19. 18 airlines, including Air Malta, are expected to fly to Malta this summer season, which makes up for around 70% of the routes we had pre-pandemic, back in 2019.

Roy Kinnear, Air Malta’s CCO said, “This schedule delivers a strong message of commitment by the Airline towards the local and international tourism industry. The schedule focuses on Malta’s core markets for inbound tourism and is in line with Air Malta’s strategy of being a point-to-point carrier operating to major European cities and major airports, attaching to larger network airlines through key interline partnerships and codesharing agreements.”

With regards to the exciting recent developments, the executive chairman of Air Malta, David G Curmi, said, “We are happy to note the gradual increase of consumer confidence and propensity to travel this summer. This increase, driven primarily by the success of the vaccination rollouts in many countries, especially in Malta, augurs well for an easing of travel restrictions and a restart in tourism this summer. We are happy to be a part of the process and help re-open our islands to tourism.”
