Local football team Hibernians F.C. have booked their place in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League.

On Tuesday night, the team welcomed Forglore F.C., from San Marino, to Malta with a 4-2 victory, despite a rocky first half for the Paolalites going 2-1 down just before the half-time whistle. The win, over two legs, resulted in Hibernians qualifying for the third qualifying round, something they have never achieved before.

Motivated by their 3-1 victory in the opening leg in San Marino, the team were absolutely ready. Goals from players striker Jurgen Degabriele, French attacker Wilfried Domaraud and midfielder Jake Grech sealed the win that sent the team through 7-3 on aggregate.

Hibernians F.C., which is also celebrating celebrating its 100-year anniversary, will either face Riga F.C. of Latvia or KF Shkendija, of North Macedonia. Knowing that a win will mean a record-breaking place in the playoffs, Hibernians F.C. will definitely be delivering their very best.

Throughout the club’s history, the team have qualified for a further round on three separate occasions. They eliminated Shelbourne from the UEFA Champions League first qualifying round in 2002, FCI Tallinn of Estonia in the same competition and Vaduz of Liechtenstein from the UEFA Europa League first qualifying round just last season.
