Valletta's Joseph Zerafa joins Premier League leaders Hibernians

Hibernians FC has announced the signing of 33 year old left wing back, Joseph Zerafa from Valletta Football Club on a two and a half year deal.

This is where it all started for the experienced defender, before joining Birkirkara FC at a young age. Zerafa spent the majority of his career playing for the Stripes, and later moved on to rivals Valletta FC, where he was an asset, helping the team win back-to-back titles in 2018 and 2019; two League titles, one FA Trophy and two Super Cups. Recently, he also was named captain of the same team.

Zerafa took to social media in an emotional post about his departure from the club, reflecting on his journey with Valletta FC.

“Four and a half years ago I decided that I wanted to win as many trophies as I can at the final stages of my career and this is why I chose Valletta. I played with the best in Malta and at the end we won every cup there is and I will never forget this. Thank you Valletta FC for giving me the opportunity to experience playing for one of the best clubs in the history of Maltese football. The passion this club has is unbelievable and I believe that playing for Valletta is truly a must for a local player to experience the best emotions of Maltese football!”

Zerafa continued by thanking his loyal supporters and finished off his Facebook post by stating that the decision made was not an easy one.

“It is not easy parting ways from this club, but I believe Hibernians fc have the same ambition Valletta had when I joined them four and a half years ago, so I believe the right decision from all the parties was done right.”

“Thank you Valletta fc and good luck.”
