Meet Malta’s Young Star, Ramires Sciberras, at Junior Eurovision 2024

This week, all eyes are on Madrid as the talented Ramires Sciberras takes the stage to represent Malta at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2024 on 16 November 2024.  Born in Cambodia and raised in Malta by his loving adoptive parents, Ramires’ journey is a story of love, new beginnings, and unbreakable family bonds. His song, Stilla Ċkejkna (“Little Star”), reflects his personal story, celebrating the warmth and hope that his parents brought to his life.

At just 12 years old, Ramires is no stranger to the spotlight. With years of vocal training and international performances under his belt, including winning the prestigious World Hit category at the Riga Symphony competition in 2023, he’s ready to shine on one of the biggest stages for young artists. Stilla Ċkejkna is a moving power ballad, performed fully in Maltese, that captures the incredible journey from Cambodia to Malta, with lyrics inspired by Ramires’ love for his family and heritage.

Ramires is proud to sing in Maltese, following Malta’s tradition of honoring the language at Junior Eurovision, though this is the first time the entire song will be in Maltese. With Stilla Ċkejkna, he carries forward Malta’s legacy in the competition, adding to a history of strong performances, including two Junior Eurovision wins and several top finishes.

The Junior Eurovision Song Contest is organisedd by the European Broadcasting Union and now in its 22nd edition. This year’s competition will take place in Madrid, Spain, at the iconic Caja Mágica, marking the first Junior Eurovision hosted by Spain and the first Eurovision-related event in the country since 1969. This year’s contest will be held on November 16 and will feature 17 young artists from across Europe, including entries from Italy, France, Germany, and Ukraine. Cyprus and San Marino are also returning to the contest after several years away.

Malta has a long-standing history at Junior Eurovision, with notable successes including Gaia Cauchi’s victory with The Start in 2013 and Destiny Chukunyere’s win with “Not My Soul” in 2015. Malta has missed only two Junior Eurovision contests since the competition’s launch in 2003, making it one of the contest’s most dedicated participants. Last year, Yulan Law achieved a top-ten finish for Malta with her song “Stronger.”
