‘Jet Ski’ action thriller shot in Malta

‘Jet Ski’, a UK production, is currently in the process of shooting in various locations around Malta, as well as at the Malta Film Studios.

The super production has a budget of €5,000,000, with €2,000,000 being spent in Malta.

Directed by James Nunn, best known for British thriller ‘Tower Block’ (2012) and ‘Eliminators’ (2016), the film follows a group of spring-breakers enjoying a weekend in Mexico. After a long night of partying on the beach until dawn, the group steal a couple of jet skis and take them out to sea, but end up in a horrific head-on collision.

The cast includes the likes of Holly Earl, Jack Trueman, Catherine Hannay and Thomas Flynn.

“We are thrilled to be producing ‘Jet Ski’ on the beautiful island of Malta, with such a talented cast and crew in these difficult times. ‘Jet Ski’ is a nail-biting ride that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats until the very last minute,” said producer Andrew Prendergast.

Julia Farrugia Portelli, minister for tourism and consumer protection was shown around the set by film commissioner Johann Grech and Simon Sansone, the local assistant producer of the production.

The minister claimed that the whole of the production was to be filmed in Malta and 85% of the crew is Maltese. She also praised the fact that ‘Jet Ski’ will be filmed in more than one location in Malta, including the Malta Film Studios in Kalkara, Ċirkewwa, Mellieħa and Għajn Tuffieħa, all of which are wonderful places through which we can continue to advertise out country internationally.

The production involves around 100 crew people, with another 120 Maltese extras.

“I am positive that Malta will keep on attracting productions of different genres from different countries, and we will continue to strengthen the industry, making it a world-class film industry,” said the film commissioner.

‘Jet Ski’ is expected to be released in cinemas in November 2021.
