160,000 tourists travel to Malta in September

Arrivals in September 2021 were three times higher than in September of last year, according to official figures. In fact, no less than 159,304 tourists arrived on the island in the month, compared to 50,359 in September last year, which leads us to believe that we are heading, slowly but surely, towards a pre-COVID situation.

According to the National Statistics Office, most visitors to the island came on holiday, while 6,307 came here on business. The largest share of unbound tourists were aged between 25 and 44 (44.2%), closely followed by those aged between 45 and 64 (27.8%).

Italian and French tourists made up 19.6% of the total number of visitors and the largest share of guest nights (80.3%), was spent in rented accommodation.

Should we be hoping for higher levels next month?
